It is open handed because the kids are inexperienced of the outside world. The map is their concept of the outside world. It represents their hope. The map awards the outside world what little it has. It may also show the generosity of the students, the kind of world they want to have.(The phrase openhanded means: generous , munificent ) . And yet, for these Children, these windows , not this map [U1] , their world, Where all their future’s painted with a fog, [U1] This hints that the map which ought to be a marker of their dream is not their reality; they want the map they drew to be their reality with its openness, however it is not so.
