Every man is endowed (provided) with the gift of imagination. It is a place where one
fulfills one's unfulfilled wishes and desires. These unfulfilled wishes
and desires are part of one's dreams. One cherishes (be fond of) such
dreams and tries to escape from the hard realities of the present world.
Sarojini
Naidu, who is known by the sobriquet the nightingale of India' makes
such an attempt to escape to a heaven like perfect place where she will
not have to worry about anything. She then creates a world where she can
enjoy Truth, Love and Peace in their most pure forms. Although the poem
was written during the turbulent (troublesome) years of India's
independence when violence, untouchability, casteism, superstitions and
many social evils were prominent, it is relevant even today.
In today's society we witness many evils like religious intolerance, honor killing, cow vigilantism, hate crimes, atrocities against women and children, drug abuse etc. They destroy the unity and integrity of our nation. At a time like this in order to wipe out these evil practices we should develop strong bonds of love combined with truth and peace. Therefore it is needless to say that the dream of Sarojini Naidu is so relevant in the present scenario and that it exhorts us to create a heaven like world where everyone lives peacefully.
