A warm good morning to one and
all,
It’s a great privilege to get an opportunity
like this to ignite our minds with some positive thoughts for the day. Most of
us get up nearly every morning cursing the day. But we must know that
every day is a new life to a wise man. All of us lack motivation at various
levels. We need someone to pat on our shoulder to say ‘yes, you can’. But most
often, this does not happen as people are quiet busy. At this time, rather than
looking for external motivation, we must look within us for internal motivation;
motivation that comes from ourselves. We must say to ourselves ‘yes, I
can, yes, I must’. Now, I want you to repeat after me: “Yes, I can, yes I
must”. Well, thank you.
Let me draw your attention to the world famous
inventor Thomas Alwa Edison. He is known as the magician/wizard of Menlo Park.
He has 1000s of inventions to his credit. Among them, the invention of light
bulb was a landmark in history. There is a story behind this. It is said that
Edison tested 1900 filaments before he discovered the best filament for the
bulb. When someone asked Edison if he had not failed in his 1900 attempts to
find the best filament, he replied that he had not but he simply found 1900
ways that would not work for a light bulb.
This is the level of commitment that we must
have. If Edison had stopped trying after a few attempts, he would not have
invented the light bulb. Like him we must be willing to work persistently and
diligently. There are no easy ways to success. Hard work is the only way to
success. But with hard work, we need discipline in our lives. It is said
‘discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishments’. A person without
discipline cannot be successful.
Having a low opinion of ourselves is a great
impediment (blockage) to our success. If we believe that we are just ‘nobody’
then we are slowly paving way for our own destruction. I think all of us are
familiar with the saying: ‘fortune favors the brave’. What does it mean? It
means that during critical moments of life we must take bold decisions in order
to overcome any obstacles. If we just take a glance over the names of people
who occupy top positions in many MNC’s and nations we will definitely be surprised to find
names like Rishi Sunak, Finance Minister of the UK, Sundar Pichai-CEO of Google, Satya Nadella-CEO of Microsoft, Aravind
Krishna CEO of IBM, Shantanu Narayan-CEO of Adobe, Ajay Pal Singh Banga-CEO of
Master Card, Rajiv Soori – CEO of Nokia. Who are these people? Why top
companies want Indians to become the heads? Because, they understand that we
are capable of a lot of things, yet we don’t seem to understand it. It is time
we understood who we are and what we are capable of. Also, we must stay in our country to be a part of the great nation building process. I would like to conclude my speech with a small thought of Aristotle “Knowing yourself is the beginning
of wisdom”.
Thank you.
